Problem

Error 1722 is a pretty ‘generic’ windows installer package error. When attempting to install the AnyConnect client software this happened;

Error 1722 is a general error associated with the Windows Installer. Method 1: Check if the Installer Service is running. To do so, follow these steps. Tip: Although Disk Cleanup is a wonderful built-in tool, it will not completely clean up all of the temporary files on your computer. Other programs that you frequently use such Microsoft Office, Firefox, Chrome, Live Messenger, and hundreds of other programs are not cleaned up with Disk Cleanup (including some Microsoft Corporation programs).

Error 1722. There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor. Action VACon_Install, location: C:Program FilesCiscoCisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility ClientVACon.exe, command: -install “C:Program FilesCiscoCisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Clientvpnva.inf” VPNVA

On closer inspection of the log file at C:Windowsinfsetupapi.dev.log yielded the following;

Class installer: failed(0xe000020b)!

Solution

This is usually caused by either a corrupt network connection entry, or too many interfaces entries in the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlNetwork registry key.

Thankfully Microsoft have identified this as a problem and have a tool for fixing it, download the ifcleanup tool. (There is an x86 and an x64 bit version in that zip file run the one appropriate for the affected system).

Open a command window (run as administrator) and run the ifcleanup executable.

2. Then retry to install the AnyConnect client.

If you're experiencing Error 1722, this means that a generalized error occurred during the installation. Since this error is not usually very specific, it is suggested to contact Support directly so a technician can review your installation logs to get a better idea of the cause of this error.
Here what you can do to fix this and try to successfully install VIPRE in case you are facing error 1722:

If VIPRE is listed inside of Programs & Features (Or Add/Remove Programs), attempt to remove it. If you receive an error, check for it inside our:

If VIPRE is NOT listed inside of Programs & Features (Or Add/Remove Programs), try running the Microsoft Fixit: Izotope rx 8.


1722 Windows Installer Error Failed

Here are some instructions on running this tool:
  1. Click the blue Run Now button on the site linked above.
  2. Run the program downloaded
  3. Click the Accept button
  4. Microsoft Fix It will scan the machine for Windows Install and Uninstall issues
  5. Select Detect problems and let me select the fixes to apply
  6. Select Uninstalling
  7. Select VIPRE from the programs listed and click Next
  8. Select Yes, try uninstall
  9. Make sure all the Listed issues are checked and click Next
  10. You will get a result status notifying you that the process succeeded.
  11. Select one of the feedback options and click Next
  12. Click the Close button
Once this is complete, VIPRE should have been removed from the system.
